CHAPTER 4

Paquinn knew why he was sitting outside their office, but he wasn’t sure if he was happy about it. He had come close to leaving. Had thought about it multiple times. He even drove around as if he was headed out of town and still he had ended up back here. No matter how much he tried he couldn’t stop worrying about his mate.

He had called home to talk to his closest friend for advice who found the whole situation very amusing. While Creed had understood Paquinn’s concern about the future, he had been more concerned about Paquinn leaving Emily. No one knew what could happen to a mated pair if they were separated. For all they knew both he and Emily wouldn’t be able to move on. The thought of her hurting thanks to him was not a welcome feeling. Which was why he was waiting for them to come out now.

Half an hour later, the door swung open, and the three women walked out laughing. He thought about jumping out and rushing to them, but he wasn’t sure if that would seem strange. If Emily had told Jesenca about any of their conversation, then he knew she would understand but his mate would not.

They got into Jesenca’s car and headed out with him trailing behind. The drive wasn’t very far, and he waited in the car for them to go in before getting out and walking in the same direction.

The restaurant was a bit darker than he had expected but the dim light didn’t bother him. He searched around until he spotted them in the back.

“Buenos dias, senor.” The guy standing behind a podium addressed him. “Table for one?”

“Uh…” He wanted to join them, but he also didn’t want to intrude. He took in the small space again and saw that there was a long bar not too far from where they were sitting. “I’ll sit there.” He motioned to the area.

“Very good, sir.” He walked him over and handed him a menu.

He wasn’t interested in eating, but he gave it a look. When the guy behind the bar asked what he wanted, he ordered whatever it was that he happened to be reading. Leaning back he listened as they talked about clients they worked with and plans for the weekend coming up. He paid extra attention to Emily, wanting to make sure she was safe.

“What are you doing here?” Jesenca’s voice was right next to him.

Turning he looked to see that she had left the table at some point, and he had completely missed it. “What do you think?” He wasn’t sure if Emily had talked to her about him and he didn’t want to answer until he knew for sure.

“I think you are stalking my coworker because you mated with her, and you don’t know how to tell her.” She crossed her arms and gave him a look full of steel. “And if that is the case I would caution you to be very careful. Human or wolf, no one takes kindly to someone following them around in the shadows.
